Marine Fish

Brand: Livestock (Marine Fish)

Firefish

Species: Nemateleotris magnifica

Origin: Indo-Pacific

Family: Gobiidae

Overview:

The Firefish, also known as the Fire Goby, Fire Dartfish, or Magnificent Dartfish, is a vibrant and peaceful nano-sized reef fish, popular for both its personality and stunning coloration. It features a yellow head, white anterior body, and a striking red to orange posterior, with long flowing fins outlined in black. This unique combination of color and form makes the Firefish a standout in any reef aquarium.

Ideal for nano and mid-sized systems, this species thrives in aquariums of 20 gallons or more with moderate lighting and flow. In the wild, Firefish hover above the reef in pairs or small groups, darting into bolt-holes in rockwork when threatened. In captivity, they require plenty of live rock or caves to retreat into when startled or stressed. Due to their timid nature, they may jump if startled, so a tight-fitting lid is strongly recommended.

Though peaceful toward most tankmates, Firefish may be aggressive toward conspecifics unless housed as a mated pair. They do well in community reef tanks and will feed on a wide variety of suspended meaty foods.
