Aqua Ultraviolet – 57 Watt Classic UV Sterilizer (Black)
Eliminate algae, bacteria, and protozoa without chemicals or additives. The Aqua Ultraviolet Classic 57W uses UV-C light to disrupt the DNA and RNA of single-celled organisms, helping maintain clear, healthy aquarium water.
The large reaction chamber maximizes contact time between water and the UV lamp for improved efficiency. Adjusting flow rate allows you to target specific issues, from bacterial control to water clarification. Many aquarists report noticeably clearer water within 24–48 hours.
Key Features
- Clear Blue Quartz Cap – Visually confirm lamp operation
- EZ-Twist Cap – Simplifies quartz sleeve maintenance
- Quick-Release Unions – Remove the unit without cutting plumbing
- Durable Housing – Designed for long-term performance
Suitable for reef systems up to 355 gallons.
Suggested flow rate for saltwater sterilization: 1066 GPH
How UV Sterilization Works
UV-C light damages the internal structure of free-floating microorganisms as water passes through the sterilizer.
- Lower flow rates – Target bacteria and protozoa
- Higher flow rates – Control free-floating algae and cloudy water
Flow control using a gate valve or DC pump is recommended to fine-tune performance.
Maintenance
For peak efficiency:
- Replace the UV lamp annually
- Replace or clean the quartz sleeve yearly
A decline in water clarity or increased algae growth may indicate the need for service.
